Box Definition 

The resubmission code and/or internal control number (ICN) is entered in Box 22 on the CMS-1500.

Let's review how to update Box 22 in the RCM!

• The claim's instance will determine Box 22: 0 = Original Claim, 7 = Replacement (Corrected) Claim, and 8 = Void/Cancellation of Prior Claim. The ICN will only be included with corrected claims or voids and can be altered during the correction process. For more information, click here.
