Add and Manage NDC Codes

  • Updated

The National Drug Code (NDC) is maintained by the FDA and provides information about each drug and its formula.

The Claim Form Service Name and NDC information both appear in Box 43 of a UB-04 claim form. If a claim rule includes the claim form service name, it will be displayed in PDF previews. However, both pieces of information will be listed separately in the EDI and will be included in the claim received by the payer.

Add an NDC Code

The NDC is located in the service's billing profile. Let's review how to configure the NDC on insurance claims!

  1. From the Practice Admin, click Services.
  2. Next, click the service name.

  3. Once in the service profile, click the Billing Profiles tab.
  4. Then click the profile name.
  5. To add the NDC to new and previously billed claims, click the pencil icon next to Baseline.
    • Note: Once you click edit, corrections will generate.
  6. To add the NDC as of a specified date, click Create Scheduled Change Set.

  7. Enter the effective date and click Save.
  8. Next, click the pencil icon next to the effective date.
  9. In the billing profile, set the Uses NDC Code toggle to on and enter the following NDC information:
    1. NDC Code: The 10-11 digit code that identifies the drug
    2. NDC Unit Type: The unit of measurement for the drug
    3. NDC Units: The number of units administered per service date
  10. Finally, click Save to complete the process.
